Camp Meetings

Upcoming camp meetings:
August 4th, Time: TBD - Community Gathering/Barbeque/Geodesic Dome practice build.

Meeting Summary – 7/11/07:
  • General Camp Planning
    • We have applied to be a registered theme camp this year – this allows us to have a pre-selected, reserved spot for our camp.
    • Confirmation/notification of acceptance and placement is due at the beginning of August.
    • We are listed in the Burning Man 2007 directory currently which suggests to me that we have been accepted already.
  • Current Progress
    • The Bedouin Tent is being revamped by Jed, making it stronger, easier to construct and larger with side panels on all sides to block out more sun throughout the day.
    • A new kitchen set up is being built by Jed so that we will have sinks with running water via taps and plumbing running waste water to the evaporation pool.
  • Camp Infrastructure
    • Bedouin Tent – communal living/chill space
      • Approximately 30’x40’.
      • The tent area will be carpeted.
      • It will have couches, futons, pillows, a dining table and an altar.
    • Kitchen
      • It will have at least 4 stove burners, a 3 basin sink set up with taps and drains to evaporation pool.
    • Shower
      • It will have a sheltered space this year with a pulley system to raise the shower bag and an higher rigging so the shower head will be above the head level.
    • Evaporation Pool
      • For waste water evaporation.
    • Geodesic Dome
      • For communal events and the kitchen, potentially.
    • Generator
      • We may have or acquire a generator for power usage in the camp.
  • Event/Camp Ideas
    • We will publish a public community event – a kirtan for Thursday, Aug 30th from 7:30 to 9pm – tentatively Brian and Sarah will lead a meditation/chanting session.  This will tentatively be followed by a DJ/Dance event pending power issue resolution.
    • The Manifestation Box is going to be featured more this year.  We will have a prominent station outside the main tent near the camp sign with a larger box and materials for people to write out their dreams/desires/manifestations on and put in the box.  We will also have a station with the smaller, original box inside the main tent for the same purpose.  On Sunday night at the temple burn we will take all the submissions and throw them into the fire, returning all the wishes and intentions to the ether, back to the source of all things, turning the written words from the form to the formless, turning matter back to energy, continuing the cycle.
    • With the indoor Manifestation Box we will have a crafts table for creating gifts, etc.
  • Supply/Camp Needs
  • Meal Plan
    • We will do meals the same way we have for the last 2 years:
      • Each night 3 to 4 people will be assigned to cook dinner.
      • Each cooking group is responsible for purchasing and preparing enough food for everyone in the camp.
      • Each person will only be assigned to a group for one night of cooking.  This results in everyone only preparing a dinner one night out of the entire week, but having dinner provided for them for every night of the week and provides the opportunity for the community to come together at least once per day to be together, ground and share.
      • Cooking groups and nights will be assigned mid August.
      • The total number of people that will be in the camp on each night will be available mid August.
      • Once your group has been assigned, please meet, decide on a menu for that night’s dinner and email it to the group.
      • Any one in the camp can show up to eat according to one’s own desire.
      • Dinner should be ready by 7pm.
      • Only men will cook on Friday night, allowing the women to ride in the critical tits ride if they desire.
      • Breakfast and lunch are to be handled individually. 
  • Finances
    • The finances are currently tentative, but it is looking like the camp contribution for each person will be $80 to $100.  If this is an issue in anyway for anyone, please contact Jed to work this out.
  • Pre-Burning Man Events
    • Test Build Day in the park – Saturday, August 4, time TBD.  We will put together the geodesic dome as a test run and have community gathering and barbeque.
  • Prospective Other Camp Members
    • Potential other interested camp members were mentioned.  There are a number of other slimly interested people.
  • There was a request from Pete for a design to make gifts from – something like a camp logo, that captures the intention of Camp Manifestation.
